Vårt uppträdande i Helsingfors den 13 september var så tillvida speciellt att det samordnades med avtäckandet av Eva Langes skulptur “Tro, hopp och kärlek” på Skillnadstorget som symbol för finsk-svensk vänskap. Vårt bidrag var en del av Helsingfors designvecka och ägde rum i Annegården (Annegatan 30), där ett speciellt barndesignäventyr organiserades. Våra gäster var en grupp av tioåriga elever från den franskspråkiga École Jules Verne-skolan. Gruppen bestod av ca tjugo mycket mångkulturella elever och fyra lärare.
Osmo Pekonen och Johan Stén inledde gruppen i en allmän diskussion om vikten och nyttan av att kunna många språk, och de förklarade svenska språkets betydelse i Finlands nationella kultur. Eleverna deltog livligt i den diskussion som följde. Vi talade sedan om siffror på olika språk som deltagarna kände till. Därefter ledde Nóra Somlyódy eleverna till de matematiska spelen och pusslen, där vi deltog som handledare.
Osmo Pekonen och Johan Stén fann också tid att delta i avtäckandet av konstverket vid Skillnadstorget. Dagen blev en minnesvärd och rik upplevelse för alla deltagare, inklusive lärare och lärare!

Our activity in Helsinki on September 13 was a special one because it was coordinated to coincide with the unveiling, on that date, in the Erottaja Square, of the statue “Tro, hopp och kärlek” by Eva Lange symbolizing Finnish-Swedish friendship. It was also a part of the Helsinki Design Week. The venue was Annantalo (Annankatu 30) where a special Children’s Design Adventure was organized. Our guests were 10-year old boys and girls from the French-speaking École Jules Verne, a highly multicultural class accompanied by several teachers.
Osmo Pekonen and Johan Stén first led the group into a general discussion of the importance and utility of knowing many languages, and they explained the special role of the Swedish heritage in the national culture of Finland. A lively discussion followed. We then studied how names of numbers look like in various languages known to the participants.
Nóra Somlyódy then took over introducing the children to various mathematical games and puzzles; all the three of us acted as tutors. Osmo Pekonen and Johan Stén also found the time to attend the unveiling of the “Tro, hopp och kärlek” statue, so that the day became a memorable and rich experience for all the participants, including the tutors and teachers!
